The Benchmark of Shavers!

Braun Electric Shaver

Customer Reviewer and Rating: J. Friedman - 5 Stars
I've used Norelco shavers for 25 years and never really had an issue with them. I had read somewhere that foil shavers irritate some people. Razor blade shavers leave my face a bloody mess no matter how careful I am. So, I just stuck with Norelco as they did an adequate job. Shaving is something I have to do, not want to do. An autopilot, ho hum, every morning, chore. However, when the batteries started dying on my last Norelco after only 5 years, the other models have lasted much longer, I decided to try something else. My sons have been telling me for years how much they liked the Braun and they didn't find them irritating. When I started looking at Braun, I discovered the Pulsonic uses the same technology as the Sonicare toothbrush, which I like.

The ratings looked good but yikes, the cost! I debated with myself about this a couple of days then decided, hey, Christmas was right around the corner, and I have been a good boy, plus Amazon would keep me out of the Christmas crowds and shipping was free. My time has to be worth something, right? Less than a week later, I shaved one side of my face with the Norelco (the blades are only a couple of months old) and the other with the Pulsonic and asked my wife which side was smoother. She chose the Pulsonic side, which didn't surprise me because it felt much closer to me also. I've also been pleasantly surprised to find shaving doesn't take as long as it did with the Norelco! After three weeks, I couldn't be more pleased. The Pulsonic shaves much closer than the Norelco AND shaves faster. I can't speak for other Braun models, but I would certainly recommend the Pulsonic.

Braun Electric Shavers For Men

I typically don't write reviews, even on products that give extraordinary results. So, you know this is an atypical review from the outset. First, you need to know that I've used several Braun shave systems in the past, the most recent being the Activator 8585 system. While that system did a fairly adequate job, there were areas under my chin and on my neck (Adam's apple in particular) that were frequently irritated. I've also tried several Norelco shavers with the floating heads and lift-and-cut cutters, but they took too much work and way too long to give an adequate shave. After reading well over 100 reviews about many different makes and models of shavers, I decided to give the Braun Pulsonic System 9595 a try. I was a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews, but I made up my mind to give it several weeks for my skin to adjust to the newly designed shave head, even though I had been using a Braun up until that time.

From the very first shave I knew this was a unique shaver. It is much quieter than my previous Braun, and it's as though I'm getting a face and neck massage as I'm shaving each morning. As I've learned over the past month or so, the key to getting a consistent, close shave is holding the shaver at a 90 degree angle to the area you're shaving. It also helps to pull the skin tight and shave against the growth grain. I've read some complaints about the trimmer but have found it to be both precise and effective. I also like the fact that it protrudes at a 90 degree angle so you can be very precise with it in tight areas. Overall, I am well pleased with this shaver and highly recommend it. Not only does it give a close, smooth, irritation-free shave, it's a pleasure to use. Oh, I almost forgot about the lock on the shaver head. However, the key to it is to allow the head to tilt back as the lock is being pushed into the locked position. Once it's locked, the head is actually tilted forward, so it's much easier to maintain a 90 degree angle in some of the hard to reach spots. Finally, while the shaver is not inexpensive, I feel it's well worth the investment. I also like the cleaning system, which I use daily to keep the shaver head clean and lubricated. I can definitely tell a difference in the closeness of the shave and how more easily it glides along the face and neck areas.

Braun Electric Shavers Reviews

When I used to shave I got the usual nicks, and inevitable irritation and the fact that I virtually HAD to shower immediately after to reduce irritation from the blades. I read lots of reviews on the Pulsonic and thought I'd give it a try. I must say that I am impressed. It goes accross the face, neck and lip areas very smoothly. The Face/Cheek areas get sheared after just two light passes, the chin takes a few extras, the upper lip takes a little while and the neck takes the longest, but the whole process is still much more efficient over the blade useage. After a few weeks, I have learned that to catch the neck hairs and some of the odd jawbone area hairs, you have to be creative with which direction you pass the head over your face. I kind of go sideways first, then I Invert the razor (power button down) and drag it upwards to finish it off.

The cleaning system is quite effortless, you just pop the razor back into the stand and it will charge the razor and allow you to clean it if you want to. The razor has a meter which keeps track of the "hygiene" of the razor head. I think it is actually a glorified usage timer, but at any rate, the more tick marks that are missing, the more intense the cleaning it recommends. I have cleaned mine every day on eco mode and the fluid is still on the "high" mark meaning I still have a lot of fluid left after 25 days of use. I also like the fact that it comes with a hard carrying case that you can put the shaver into when travelling. When travelling, you just take the plug from the base and plug it into the razor for charging. If you are only going for a day or 2, the plug would not even be needed, as the battery life would be plenty for a short trip. When travelling, you can just take the head off the unit and rinse the razor to clean. I would definately recommend this razor for someone wanting to get an electric.
