I investigated online and found that the Norelco 8240 & 8240 XL were good choices for dry shaving. After years of scraping my face with foam/gel and disposable razor blades resulting in nicks, cuts, ingrown hairs, and irritated skin, I thought that I might try one of these dry electric shavers. I went to Wal-Mart and bought the Norelco 8240 for $90, but Amazon sells the razor for $10 cheaper if your willing to wait for shipping time. I haven't gotten any razor burn or irritated skin from using this electric shaver and it sounds super quiet.
The product feels good and solid in the hand, and sounds nothing like my Norelco hair/nose trimmer. Remember to charge the shaver for 12 hours before you use it. It only takes an hour to charge after the initial charge and is supposed to retain its charge for about 7-10 days. The initial cost of the electric razor is a bit spendy, but the unit will pay for itself over time considering the cost of shaving gel, razor blades, and aftershave/lotion for razor burn. Also, you will minimize your shave time and your face will be less irritated.

Norelco has always made great shaving products and I was curious just how they could improve on their already successful electric razors. I have used "Gillette Mach 3" razors for several years and wondered if an electric razor could be that close. I can't tell if 50% more shaving surface truly exists, but I do know that the three rotor heads are the most flexible, comfortable and face hugging I have ever experienced. The rotor heads are extremely supple in their motion and never pinch my face. For cleaning, it's a simple pop of the lever and the triple-rotor piece flips out, ready to be rinsed in hot tap water - then leave it open to air dry. There is also a small double-brush for cleaning in between the rotor slots. The charging is a little different than most in that, you charge it once for 12 hours and let it run-down until the battery light flashes to warn you that it needs another charge.
This allows the internal battery to last longer. A recharge only takes a few minutes for a shave. The feel of the shaver is completely ergonomically comfortable. Of course, there is the sideburn trimmer with very fine teeth, but this also allows for nose hair trimming if needed. There is also a nice little carrying case that snugly fits the razor and cord. It would have been nice to have a stand to place the razor in, but that is a small inconvenience. It does beat "Gillette Mach 3" razors and I thought would be nearly impossible.

That's what it says on the box: Fast. Close. Efficient. And my hubby dear seems to agree. On the box it also claims to have 50% more shaving surface, I don't know if that's true, because till now my better half has always shaved the old fashioned way, with a razor and shaving lotion. But I got him this and urged him to try it and he's not going back.
He claims the shave is every bit as close, but then he's got a light beard, something that has always bothered him, he'd love to grow one out, look like Abe Lincoln, but alas that's not gonna happen. He's destined to be clean shaven. Well, no more blades for him, he's taken a step into the Two Thousands and shaves electronically and he appears to very satisfied as well as being close shaven.
